La Dehesa Montenmedio in Vejer hosted this October the Spanish National Show Jumping Championships in the Absolute, Young Riders, Classic (1.10m, 1.20m, and 1.30m), and Young Horses (5, 6, and 7 years old) categories. Breaking the record for number of entries—with seven hundred horse-rider pairs—the event once again kicked off the Vejer October Tour.
Ovohorse and Ovoclone, companies specializing in equine reproduction and animal cloning, participated this year in Montenmedio as sponsors of one of the events—specifically, the second qualifier of the Absolute Championship. The Spanish companies, led by embryologist Enrique Criado Scholz, played a starring role during the Ovohorse Trophy, held on the main David Broome arena of the Andalucía October Tour, where the awards ceremony also took place.
First place in the Ovohorse Trophy went to Jesús Garmendia. The rider from San Sebastián completed the 13-jump course faultlessly aboard “Callias.” Second place went to Catalan rider Imma Roquet with her CDE “Icenta del Maset,” and third went to Eduardo Álvarez Aznar riding “D’Orient Batilly.” Álvarez Aznar, an international rider and the number one on the national ranking (and 42nd in the world), finished a brilliant weekend by winning the Absolute Championship gold medal for the first time—after having been runner-up on three previous occasions.

Equine Reproduction and Genetic Preservation
Tabla de contenidos
During this edition, Ovohorse and Ovoclone were present in Montenmedio as exclusive companies specialized in equine reproduction and cloning. Their services are pioneers in Spain thanks to their expertise in human reproduction, genetics, and cell cryopreservation. With these advanced techniques and cloning processes, the genetic legacy of competition horses and mares can be preserved without interrupting their sporting careers—an emerging field in the equine sector that enables the replication of champion horses.
Cloning makes it possible to bring life back. This technique allows the cloning of animals that hold high value in the sporting world. The goal is to obtain a healthy and genetically identical embryo to the original animal. All that’s required is a small biopsy—if the animal has passed away, it must be done within a few hours. This biopsy can be stored in the Ovohorse cell line preservation bank to maintain its qualities intact.

Cell Line Preservation
One of the most in-demand services during the Championship held in Vejer was cell line preservation. This service offers the possibility to anticipate or prevent illnesses or sudden death, allowing for the animal’s genetic material to be preserved indefinitely. This makes it possible to create a future replica.
